A crucial element of the Glen Huon Reserve Redevelopment which sparked discussion during community consultation has received a cash boost.

Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray presented Dardanup Shire Council with a $240,000 Lotterywest grant last week for a highly-anticipated playground.

The money will allow for an impressive design of the new playground to become a reality.

The playground has 11 new pieces of equipment which will replace some well-used facilities slightly south of the new location at Glen Huon and will also include shade sails, two gazebos and barbecues.

“It allows us to upgrade a very old playground with a new one and we’ll be able to get another 20 years out of the new one,” Cr Bennett said.

“It will enhance the area for some time and the community has been fantastic in accepting relocation of the playground to a better position.”

Construction of the new playground is due to start this month and be complete by September.

Mr Murray said the grant would benefit children in the community and inspire them to get outside.

“This particular grant will provide a lasting amenity for the area and provide kids the opportunity to get out and play in this beautiful weather,” Mr Murray said.

“It’s imperative that kids have an array of choices to keep them both active and healthy and that our communities become more liveable.”

“It is great to see the local shire investing in this space and initiatives like this will always be on my radar.”
