Minninup Forum undergoes latest transformation to become Citygate’s new South Bunbury Marketplace

Citygate’s new South Bunbury Marketplace is gearing up to showcase a bustling marketplace environment, fresh produce and locally-sourced goods to the delight of locals.

Formerly home of the Minninup Forum, the new marketplace will show off its fresh new look for the first time this month, with the recently-opened IGA in the spotlight.

But not to worry, all the old favourites will still be there including fish and chips, Chicken Treat, Joe’s Pizza, the newsagency, chemist and Matilda’s Cafe.

Bunbury Mayor Dick McKenzie officially opened the the Minninup Forum on January 7, 1988, featuring grocery chain Charlie Carters, a bakery and a chemist.

In the three decades since, the centre’s supermarket has undergone a multitude of transformations, from Charlie Carters to Dewsons, to Farmer Jacks, to Woolworths. Earlier this month it was relaunched as a new format IGA, complementing the plan for the new marketplace concept and featuring metro prices for its customers to enjoy.

But the recent redevelopment looks set to be the most impressive with centre owner, Citygate Properties, undertaking a sweeping redevelopment in order to improve accessibility, amenities, and the overall look and feel of the entire centre.

Citygate Principal Geoff Prosser said the redevelopment was a new direction for the popular neighbourhood centre.

“For nearly 30 years, Minninup Forum has been at the heart of the local community, providing groceries and a range of goods and services,” Mr Prosser said.

“The new IGA marketplace sets the scene for a centre that is bright, vibrant and truly local.

“The redevelopment and rebranding of the centre aims to ensure that South Bunbury Marketplace remains at the heart of the community for the next 30 years.”
